Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2009 Wolfeboro Area Farmers' Market a success!
The Wolfeboro Area Farmers' Market had a great season this year thanks to all the community support. Despite the challenging weather, our local growers managed to fill their booths with some of the most beautiful and delicious vegetables you have every laid your eyes on. Nice work! And that's not to mention the scrumptious baked goods, yummy pies, sweet preserves, bangin' bagels, local honey, dairy delicaies, and so many other local food and farm delights.
In addition to being the best place to source fresh, local food, the market also serves as a special social gathering space, rich in community spirit. Market goers were also able to learn a thing or two about farm-related trades through a series of workshops by local homesteaders Virginia Taylor and Karen Downing. These workshops including learning how to dehydrate food, ferment and preserve food, make butter, work with herbs, and spin wool. Thanks to the market's new location at Clark Park, children were able to play in the park while there parents sifted through vegetables nearby, at least one family picnic seem to sprout each week under the large maple tree, and we were even graced by an acoustic string band one week where G.A.L.A.'s director, Josh, learned to waltz!
The Wolfeboro Farmers' Market members are now shifting gears as they elect a new Steering Committee and begin planning for next year. The market is also looking for volunteers to help with outreach, organizing, and fundraising ideas.

Via Lactea Farm, Brookfield, NH
Jennifer and Andy Tapper

Via Lactea Farm is a small, diversified farm located in Brookfield. In 1994 Andy and Jenny Tapper resurrected an abandoned 1798 homestead and pursued their dream of owning and operating a self-sufficient farm. They cleared land for gardens and pasture, renovated the house and built outbuildings and barns, and learned animal husbandry with a small menagerie of livestock and poultry.

As the farm grew their dream evolved and today the farm is home of Brookfield Dairy Goat Milk Products. With the milk from their herd of 30 dairy goats, Jenny produces a variety of goat milk cheeses, yogurt and raw milk in glass bottles in a licensed dairy plant. Brookfield dairy products are sold at the farm, farmers' markets and local grocers and restaurants. The farm produces poultry, pork, chevon, fresh eggs and maple syrup, which are sold from their farm storefront. Andy also manages the farm woodlot and processes firewood for sale locally.
Jenny advocates for small farms through her volunteer work with G.A.L.A., Farm Bureau, UNH Cooperative Extension and the Brookfield Agriculture Commission. Jenny is a founding member of the Wolfeboro Farmers' Market and after a short hiatus is pleased to participate as vendor and volunteer.
