Sustain-A-Raisers
Sustain-a-Raisers (inspired by barn-raising) is a program that provides sustainable home/yard retrofits and services, or "raisers," promoting resource conservation and self-sufficiency. Raisers may include digging garden-beds, erecting clothesline, installing compost bins or rain-barrels, zero-carbon yard maintenence, etc. G.A.L.A. works with youth volunteers to offer these services while also providing a platform for youth participants to develop entrepreneurial and project management skills.
Sustain-A-Raisers dispells the common excuses that say sustainable living is either too expensive or too much work. Creativity and collaboration transform expensive and laborious chores into enriching youth-managed sustainable home/yard retrofits and services that are affordable and fun. As a result, Sustain-A-Raisers has a unique triple return – a) reducing our community’s ecological footprint while increaseing self-sufficiency, b) building social capital, and c) developing entrepreneurial skills among youth.
If you are interested in joining a Sustain-A-Raisers team, or would like to learn more about the Sustain-A-Raiser services, please contact G.A.L.A. for further details.
